Back Score rank

GOAT: a Back Score of 91 or higher

The top rank on the ladder, spanning 91 to 100. Nothing left to fix — which changes the question from what to build next to what to hold.

The short answer

GOAT is the highest rank on the BackMaxx Back Score scale: any Back Score of 91 or higher, up to the ceiling of 100. The band spans ten points and has no rank above it. It means all six zones score high with no obvious gap, and the remaining points sit in Symmetry and Lower Back detail.

GOAT is any Back Score of 91 or higher

Ninth of nine ranks. The band runs 91 to 100, which makes it ten points wide — wider than Titan’s six, Grandmaster’s seven, or any of the eight-point middle bands, and second only to Newbie’s 38.

GOAT is the top of the scale, not a position on a leaderboard. There is no ranking against other users and no published distribution, and the score remains an estimate read from one photograph. What the band asserts is narrow and specific: nothing in the photo reads as absent.

What the top band looks like from behind

Every zone is high, so the interesting detail is how they interact. The lat edge is visible from the armpit down to the waist and stays visible with the arms relaxed at the sides. Above it the teres major is its own mass, separate from the lat, and the border between them holds without a pose.

Between the blades there is depth rather than a ridge, with rhomboids and lower traps distinguishable from each other. Traps frame the neck and stop, so the shoulder line still exists. Rear delts separate cleanly from the traps above them and the lats below.

The erectors branch either side of the spine and the detail continues down into the base. That is what “nothing left to fix” describes — not perfection, but the absence of any zone that draws the eye for the wrong reason.

Where the last nine points hide

From 91 the ceiling is nine points up, and they are not distributed evenly across the six zones.

ZoneWhy it still costs points at 91+
SymmetryNo exercise leads it; 8 touch it as a secondary zone
Lower BackErectors recover slowly, so two hard sessions a week is the cap
Rear DeltsSmall muscle, high frequency — easy to under-set in a heavy week

Symmetry is the reliable answer at this band. It is the only zone that is not a question of how much you have built, and it is read left against right, which means a stance that rotates one shoulder forward can cost points a training block cannot win back.

There is no rank above this one

Every other rank page ends with a number of points to the next rank. This one cannot, and that changes what the score is for.

At 91 the Back Score stops being a target and becomes a monitor. It can go down: a block spent on legs, a month of travel, a shift in how you stand for the photo. Watching it is a maintenance activity, the same way a scale is once your weight is where you want it.

The number that still moves usefully is the gap between your highest and lowest zone score. At GOAT that gap is the only thing left with real range in it, and closing it is what the remaining points above 91 actually represent.

What a GOAT actually trains

No single program is the answer at this rank, and that is the honest recommendation — the right block is whichever your lowest zone names, and the app builds the plan from the weakest areas rather than from your rank. Rotating the five is the practical version: a thickness or width block when a big zone dips, then a short three-week block on whichever detail zone the scan flags.

The one addition that does not come from a program: unilateral work kept in permanently, reps matched to the weaker side. It is the only lever on the zone that decides this band, and it costs nothing to keep once it is a habit.

Holding 91 is a different job

Three things matter more at GOAT than at any band below. Photo conditions, because a ten-point band and a visual estimate mean sloppy setup can hand you a rank change that did not happen. Consistency of stance, since Symmetry reads exactly what your stance does. And a real progress-photo routine, so a year of scans is comparable rather than decorative.

What to stop worrying about is easier: everything to do with rank. There is no ninth step to chase, no next band, and no reason to train for a label you already hold. Train the lowest zone, keep the Back Score as the check rather than the goal, and let the number sit where a maintained back sits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the highest Back Score possible?

The scale runs 0 to 100, so 100 is the ceiling. GOAT covers 91 and up, which makes it a ten-point band with no rank above it. A 91 and a 99 carry the same rank name.

Is GOAT the last rank in BackMaxx?

Yes. GOAT is ninth of nine, above Titan at 85 to 90. Below that sit Grandmaster, Master, Elite, Pro, Semi-Pro, Starter and Newbie. There is nothing above GOAT to climb toward.

Can a Back Score go down from GOAT?

Yes. The score is a visual estimate from a fresh photo each time, so it reflects your back as it is now, not the best scan you ever recorded. Training changes, and inconsistent photo conditions, can both move it.

What should you train at a Back Score above 91?

Whatever your lowest zone score names, since no rank is left to target. Usually that means unilateral work for Symmetry kept in permanently, plus controlled hinges and holds for Lower Back detail, with the big zones held at maintenance.
